On Friday evening, relatives and friends of Ghanaian striker Raphael Dwamena gathered at Kotoka International Airport (KIA) to witness the arrival of his mortal remains for the last burial ceremonies.
Before the family received the body in preparation for the funeral and burial customs in Ghana, prayers were said and brief tributes were given.
On Saturday, November 11, during KF Egnatia's league match against Partizani, the Abanian-born striker went down.
There was no challenge made to him at the 23rd minute. Rescue attempts were unsuccessful as he passed away en route to Kavajë Hospital following on-site emergency treatment.
Family and friends have been pouring in tributes, and last Tuesday on Onua FM/TV, his mother shared some of his wonderful deeds on Maakye.
During the main morning show, the footballer's family voiced their anguish at not being informed of the whereabouts of his body.
However, Dwamena's body arrived at KIA on Friday, shortly after his former colleagues celebrated a 1-0 victory over Madagascar in the first qualifier for the FIFA World Cup 2026.
The casket was wrapped in a black plastic bag and instantly covered in Ghanaian colors.
Football players, including Godwin Attram, as well as his wife's family and representatives from the Ghana Football Association (GFA) were in attendance.
