The Positioning Individual from the Training Board of Trustees in Parliament, Forbearing Apaak, is asking the Pastor of Schooling, Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum, to reevaluate the choice to keep the resuming date for first-year Senior Secondary School Understudies on December 4 and on second thought move it to January 2024.
There has been a lot of concern about how little time students have to get ready for school since the Ghana Education Service released the 2023–2024 academic calendar for both single-track and double-track students.
Alban Bagbin, Speaker of Parliament, pleaded with the Ministry of Education to change the date to the first week of January 2024 in response to these concerns.
However, the Ministry of Education has so far refused to change its mind, insisting that December 4 will be the reopening date.
Dr. Clement Apaak emphasized the necessity of addressing the issues raised by teachers' unions, parents, and students in an interview with Citi FM's Eyewitness News.
"It is important to note that when the PRO seeks to suggest that cost on the parents has been reduced and mentions textbooks, that is a bit disingenuous." "Clearly, the ministry has not ameliorated the challenges that the students are going to face."
“Again, there are additional challenges; consequently, you cannot assume that every parent will be able to raise some amount of money within this short period of time to send their child to school because you have a unified prospectus. Given the short time period reported as the resumption date, we cannot ignore the difficulties and pressures parents face.
