Three weeks after the consumer credit scheme's launch, over a million Nigerians have applied, according to Uzoma Nwagba, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Nigerian Consumer Credit Corporation.

Working citizens can use the credit program to obtain loans for significant expenditures.

Nwagba claims that the amount of applications received thus far has been enormous since President Bola Tinubu unveiled the first phase in April.

It's been too much to handle. We issued an expression of interest about a week after my appointment, and we weren't prepared for the amount of applications or expressions of interest that came in.

Approximately 1.6 million Nigerians have expressed interest in working with us, provided information about their income, and specified what they require financing for as of right now. We were surprised by the volume.

"I believe that people have been observing the President's statements and are anticipating this," Nwagba stated on Tuesday in an interview with Politics Today on Channels Television.

Six weeks after taking office, Nwagba gave a speech on his assignment and declared that he was ready to lead the present administration's initiative to increase the number of working Nigerians who can obtain consumer credit.

He continued, "It is our responsibility and we are ready to adopt a methodical approach to make sure that we continue to go through Nigeria's demography."

As per the announcement made during the scheme's introduction by Ajuri Ngelale, Special Advisor to the President on Media and Publicity, the program is anticipated to fulfill its objectives by means of the following:

bolstering Nigeria's credit reporting infrastructure to guarantee that each person engaged in the economy has a stable credit score. Their personal equity is increased by this score, which makes it easier for them to obtain consumer credit.
supplying wholesale loans and credit guarantees to financial organizations committed to increasing consumer access to credit today.

In order to improve people's quality of life, "promoting responsible consumer credit as a pathway to a cultural shift towards growth and financial responsibility."
